School Council
Netherton C of E has a School Council made up of 2 representatives from each class, from Years 1—Y6, headed by the Head Boys & Girls. Their role is to help make the school better. They seek the views and ideas of their class and discuss them with the senior leaders at meetings. They may also be asked by school leaders to work on specific projects.
Selecting School Council Reps
All pupils in Year 1 – 6 have the opportunity to be part of the School Council. Those wanting to be a School Council Representative are asked to give a short presentation to their class, outlining why they want to be a School Council Rep and why they would be good at the role.
The whole school then takes part in Voting Day, where each pupil gets the opportunity to vote for a boy and girl to represent their class.
This method of selection teaches all pupils about one of the British Values: Democracy - giving them the experience of an election.
Projects and initiatives led by School Council
The Christmas Fair
The School Council organised the Christmas Fair; they planned the stalls, created posters to promote it; and set it up and ran the stalls. The money raised at the fair has been used to develop the outdoor space for pupils. The school council was involved in gathering information from the pupils regarding what they would like to have.
Collecting Chocolate Tubs 
The school council organised the collection of tubs to support the Tubs2Pubs initiative run by the Greene King pub chain. The tubs were collected at their pubs throughout the country, during January until mid-February, before taking them to a recycling plant, which pay them 8p per tub. Greene King then donate all the money to Macmillan.
Netherton C of E collected 537 tubs and raised £42.96 for Macmillan. Whilst this is not a huge amount, every little helps and a car FULL of plastic was recycled rather than going to a landfill.
We ran this as a competition between the classes and 4G had the most chocoholics… collecting 142 tubs. They won a tub of chocolates - full this time - to share!
