Librarians

We are privileged to have a wonderful library that all our pupils from Reception to Year 6 have access to. Each year a team of librarians are chosen to support the English team. Our junior librarians are a group of children dedicated to promoting and fostering a love of reading across the school through a range of ‘Reading for Pleasure’ initiatives such as promoting the school library, World Book Day and fundraising for new books. They also have an organisational role in keeping our school library up to date, well-kept and appealing to all; offering book recommendations and a reading buddy to hear other children read.

Selecting Junior Librarians

Our Junior Librarians have been chosen from a selection of strong readers who show a passion for reading and an enthusiasm to share their love of reading with others. From this group of children, the selection has been made by the English leader based on these pupils’ good leadership qualities, behaviour and ability to interact/ support other children on their reading journey. This year we have chosen pupils from Year 5.

Projects and initiatives led by the Junior Librarians

Our junior librarians have the responsibility for the following:

  • Checking in/out books.
  • Generally keeping the library area organised and tidy, returning books to their correct locations.
  • Reading partners with peers who wish to read in the library during breaks and lunchtimes.
  • Recommending their favourite books to others in a monthly book review which can be shared on the school Dojo story.
  • Displaying work.
  • Keeping the junior library catalogue system up to date, once up and running.
  • Supporting the English Team to gain pupil voice for organising Book Week and World Book Day Events.
