Wellbeing Ambassadors
We are delighted to have a well-established pupil Wellbeing Team at Netherton. This is made up of children from Years 1- 6. We consider the role of a Wellbeing Ambassador to be of great importance and encourage the chosen children to actively become involved with pupil wellbeing at Netherton CE.
Purpose
The Wellbeing Ambassadors at Netherton CE are supported to check in on the wellbeing of the pupils in their own classes. They support their peers to discuss or talk to an adult if they are experiencing low mood. As ambassadors of the school, they also promote the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ in their classes and in the wider school.
Their roles and responsibilities include:
- Being ambassadors for the school by: - Checking in on their peer’s wellbeing
- Actively promoting the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing.’
- Discussing their ideas on how to promote pupil wellbeing
- Speaking to visitors and answering questions about wellbeing at our school
- Being role models for the rest of the pupils
- Ensuring that pupil voice is heard by representing and speaking for all pupils
- Leading and/or supporting in assemblies across the school
- Supporting the school in developing new ideas and projects
- Attending meetings each half term with the Mental Health Leads
- Working alongside Reflexions to develop their understanding of the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’.
- Overseeing the break and lunch time Wellbeing boxes and activities
Additional responsibilities
To organise and/or support with charity and fund-raising events centred around the theme of wellbeing e.g. Hello Yellow, donations for the Black Country Food Bank (improving wellbeing by giving to others) and Children’s Mental Health Week.
Selecting Wellbeing Ambassadors
All pupils in Year 1 – 6 have the opportunity to be a Wellbeing Ambassador. Those wanting to be a Wellbeing Ambassador are asked to give a short presentation to their class, outlining why they want to be part of this team and why they would be good at the role commenting on the Five Ways to Wellbeing.
Each class then votes who they think will be best suited for the role. There is one representative from each class. Every year new wellbeing ambassadors are appointed.
Projects and initiatives led by the Wellbeing Ambassadors
Food Bank Collections
Every year at Christmas time, the Wellbeing Ambassadors help to organise a whole school collection for our local Food bank: Black Country Foodbank. Our Ambassadors visit each class to collect any donations to place in a central place.
Care Home Visits
Wellbeing Ambassadors have the opportunity to connect with the wider community by creating Easter cards to send to local care homes and also visiting them at Christmas to sing come carols. This helps to promote the ‘Connect’ strand from the 5 ways to Wellbeing.
Playground Boxes
From our recent pupil voice, children at our school requested extra activities and resources on the playground at break time. After an appeal for toys, we created our Wellbeing break time boxes. These are now distributed and collected each break time by the Wellbeing Ambassadors.
