Early Years
Welcome to our Early Years department at Netherton CE Primary school. Our Early Years Foundation Stage is designed to provide a happy, safe, and stimulating environment where children can make an excellent start to their school journey. We aim to give all pupils the opportunity to thrive and become independent learners. We pride ourselves on our positive, caring ethos which allows children to develop as individuals and begin to build long lasting friendships.
Our department consists of children in Nursery and Reception. We also offer full time Nursery places for those families who are eligible. Our pupils learn to share, work, and play together in a well-resourced area, inside and out.
We strongly believe that a child's time in the Foundation Stage is one of the most important times in the school as this develops the whole foundation for their learning and development. The staff in the Foundation Stage place a high priority on nurturing and caring for the children and making school an exciting and enjoyable experience.
Four Guiding Principles
The curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage is planned around four guiding principles:
The Seven Areas of Learning and Development
Characteristics of Learning
Alongside these areas of learning and development our pupils are encouraged to play and explore, be active learners and create and think critically. These characteristics underpin learning across all areas and support our pupils to remain effective, motivated and successful learners.
Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned purposeful play and through a mix of adult led and child -initiated activities.
During child-initiated time, children are presented with daily challenges that extend their learning.
Encouragement through rewards
Good effort, hard work and following the school rules are rewarded with class Dojo points. A reward system that allows children to earn points that lead to rewards.
